1 - A new handbook by Ineris for the French Ministry of the Environment is now available. This handbook, edited by lneris, deals with post-mining hazard evaluation and mapping in France. This is also an opportunity for you to participate to a European survey.
Knowledge of hazards associated with mining works has largely been developed in recent years in metropolitan France. The research carried out to apprehend risks on the surface influenced by old mining operations is realised through a "hazard study", for the vast majority of the dreaded phenomena which can occur.
In the framework of the risk management that these old mining works can generate, on the one hand, and the sustainable development of these territories, on the other hand, the study of the hazards, and associated maps, constitutes an essential step.
This handbook provides information on post-mining phenomena, the feedback that has been established and indications on the parameters to be considered to evaluate and to map the hazard.
2 - Participate to a European survey on post-mining management
Ineris is initiating a benchmark about post-mining management in Europe and we would be glad that your respective country could contribute (please help us identify the best entity to do so if you do not feel at ease to do it by your own ). Obviously, we’ll share conclusions of the process when finished. Please let me know if you are Ok to join.
Europe is characterized by a rich history in terms of mining. Since a few decades, post-mining emerged as a crucial consideration for both mining operators and Authorities.
Ineris, as the French National Institute for Industrial Environment and Risks, is currently undergoing an inventory of main post-mining issues and solutions that have raised from European countries.
In order to go beyond a simple literature review, we would kindly ask you to fill the following questionnaire. It deals with risks European countries face during post-mining period and the organizational and technical tools that they developed to solve them.
In case, you consider another entity would be more suitable to fill the questionnaire, we would kindly ask you to forward contact details to Romuald Salmon (Engineer in charge of gathering the information).
Our goal is to establish a big picture of post-mining management in Europe that will be materialized in a memento that we will share with you.
