One of Institute’s advantages is its ability to study the entire contamination chain: measuring pollutants in all environmental sectors, studying transfer paths and flows of contaminants into exposed environments, evaluating risks to humans and ecosystems, assessing compatibility with the intended use of the site, identifying rehabilitation options, helping to apply those options, and metrological monitoring. Thus, the Institute can provide in-depth expertise to all players in multiple contexts.
For over 10 years, the Institute has also been developing experiments to determine the effectiveness of phytotechnologies and ways in which they can be used. These techniques use the properties of plants to extract, contain or degrade pollutants present in the soil. They provide a long-term solution to managing site pollution and in avoiding the negative impact of land excavation.
