Ineris attended the European Environment Agency (EEA) meeting on October 1 and 2, 2025, in Copenhagen to present its work on ambient air quality carried out as part of the thematic center dedicated to human health and the environment (ETC Human health and the environment (ETC HE) — Eionet Portal (europa.eu)).

Alicia Gressent presented the institute's work on ozone levels in Europe and the link with its precursors. Based on the experience gained in France—one of three Member States to have implemented specific regional plans—the study highlights the need to continue efforts in several areas in order to fully control ozone levels: deepening our understanding of ozone formation processes, strengthening the monitoring of its precursors, and finally, taking into account spatial variability and the lifetime of the chemical species involved.

Marc Durif presented the national network for real-time measurement of the chemical composition of particles, coordinated by the LCSQA. This innovative system, accompanied by a web visualization tool, provides near-instantaneous access to particle source tracers. It supports the monitoring of pollution episodes, facilitates public information and decision-making at the local level, and improves air quality forecasting tools.

The presentations were given at the annual meeting of the EIONET (Environmental Information and Observation NETwork) thematic group on air quality. This was an opportunity to share progress in improving air quality, present the tools made available by the EEA, and discuss the content of the report on the state of the environment in Europe in 2025, which is updated every five years and was recently published.

The EEA's mission is to provide reliable and independent information on the environment and climate in Europe. To this end, it draws on the expertise of seven thematic centers, including the ETC HE, to which some 20 experts from INERIS have been contributing since 2021.

EIONET is a partnership network between the EEA and its 38 member and cooperating countries. It has around 2,500 members and provides harmonized and regular environmental information, while recognizing the diversity of situations and governance at the level of each country. It brings together both those responsible for reporting environmental data and experts involved in the EEA's thematic discussions.
