The French National Institute for Industrial Environment and Risks (INERIS) is approved by the British government for the certification of pyrotechnic items under the UKCA standard

In early January 2022, the INERIS was approved by the British government for the certification of pyrotechnic items, including airbags, under the UKCA standard. As a result of Brexit, CE-marked products can no longer be placed on the UK market from 1 January 2023. Instead, they will have to comply with British standards and be UKCA-marked.

In late 2021, the INERIS received UKAS accreditation and was notified of this by the British government.

This certification guides the manufacturing process for motor vehicles made in the United Kingdom: from 1 January 2023, all airbags made and placed on the UK market will have to comply with the UKCA standard. All airbag manufacturers are currently located outside of the United Kingdom and may therefore be certified by the INERIS.
