Alain Dorison was appointed Ineris' Chairman of the Board of Directors by the President of the Republic on 03/07/2018 (Official Gazette No. 0057 dated March 9, 2018). He succeeds Philippe Hirtzman.

Alain Dorison is a General Mining Engineer and represents the Ministry of Economy and Finance on Ineris' Board of Directors.  He is chairman of the CGEIET's (General Council of the Economy, Industry, Energy and Technologies) Inspection Committee and has been a member of the CGEDD (General Council for the environment and sustainable development) since 2013. He regularly takes part in consulting assignments, providing support and risk auditing expertise in the industrial environment and nuclear power field. He was director of the Ecole des Mines d'Alès (Alès School of Mines) from 2003 to 2013, director of the Ecole des Mines d’Albi (Albi School of Mines) from 1999 to 2003, and regional director of research and the environment (Champagne-Ardenne, Haute-Normandie and Midi-Pyrénées) between 1990 and 2003.

In his new role, he has outlined Ineris’ scope:

“It is invaluable and irreplaceable for the State and its environmental protection policies, to have the technical support of an autonomous public body, making independent decisions, and having the expertise that Ineris has. The Institute is also a tool at the service of the country's economy, promoting the use of procedures and technologies that respect the environment, as well as the development of competitive French products and services in this area. By simultaneously conducting research and interfacing with industrial entities, Ineris is able to be at the forefront of scientific knowledge and technological development.”

Finally, Alain Dorison highlights two major challenges for the Institute: “It must adapt to counter new sources of risk, the issues and factors related to which are becoming increasingly complex. It must remain responsive to society and better communicate with it”.
