Emissions linked to industrial activities and the use of biomass - inter-comparisons currently at the test bench

From 15 to 26 October, the Institute organised tests to compare methods of measuring ammonia and formaldehyde emissions.
These tests were organised as part of the European IMPRESS 2 project which involves French, Italian and Danish teams. They represent a major issue for European standards authorities.

The objective is to compare the results of the manual reference method, which traps the compound in an appropriate solution before analysing it, to the results of the new generation automatic analysers whose characteristics must comply with numerous metrological criteria.
The suitability of these analysers for measuring increasingly small concentrations is an important issue: European standards authorities have to offer efficient methods that are suited to emissions requirements at increasingly low levels.

*The Ineris emissions test bench is the only one of its kind in Europe. It can simulate gaseous and particulate effluent from combustion and incineration plants and simultaneously accommodates up to twelve measurement teams.
